Someone just sugggested to me that if ESL classes are required that maybe good English should be required, too. Speaking another language as a first language does not necessarily mean that you speak English. This to me is an interesting idea. Do people who say, "Me and my sister done it," speak English? Or, on the other end of things, how about "Contact Mary or myself if you have any questions," and "He gave it to Mary and I."
There are some funny things that people say that they wouldn't if they just thought about it, such as "hot water heater." Do you need a device to heat hot water? There are more, but I'll think of them later.
While I'm at it, the word "familiar" is not pronounced "fermiliar."
My English ain't that great, but I get my meaning across without making most people groan.
I think.
