About the only good thing about being sick is that while lying in bed, swathed in quilts, drifting near sleep, I dream. Vividly. Not in technicolor, but really really interesting dreams, usually taking off from a novel that comes to mind, and icrporating something else I recently saw. Then it gets funky. Fever dreams, indeed. This is when I think I could write a novel, because elaborate scenarios play themselves out as I meander along my mental landscape, in the not-awake/not-dreaming dreams. Daydreaming, but not really conscious. I sure feel more for Coleridge on these days. But I'm still not taking up laudanum.... |
