{ Now playing: The Choir, "Gripped"; Recent movies: Godzilla (1956)*****; Recent books: II Samuel; Philemon; Luther, Lectures on Genesis 15-20; Dorothy Sayers, Gaudy Night; Joe Haldeman, The Forever War; Koch, The History of Prussia; The Basic Bakunin: Writings 1869-1871; } Some nifty post-quaking roundups on the Hokkaido earthquake. Mainichi Daily has their usual shiny photos of earthquake aftermath. My boss tried to say at the time that it didn't sound like much of an earthquake, when he heard me exclaim "Crap!" loudly in the office shortly after 5 o'clock, and explain that it was an 8.0 quake off Hokkaido. Then again, he hasn't seen pics like these. There was some scoffing at the 1-meter tsunami, people pointing out that 3-foot waves are trivia. Of course predictions are tricky, as the Japan Times explains. There's topography questions involved, too. And some of the tsunami have have been 4 meters, in fact. batZ. |
