Because, you know, women are all crazy and stuff, it's, like, not really murder when they shoot their assailants.

But wait! Enlightened America is above such tomfoolery, right? In theory, yes, but not at the hands of certain damn fools (police Lt. Rocky Vipond, First Assistant District Attorney Mark Skurka, and especially Judge Nanette Hasette).

"It's really not unusual to hear about such a tragedy," said Evette Wigginton, internal operations director at the Women's Shelter of South Texas. "We usually hear it more when it's the woman who finally stood up than when it was one of the 117 women killed in Texas this year by domestic violence."
