So, I recently realized that we only sing River unusual songs -- Alphabutt, Snuggle Puppy, Straight Outta Compton -- and that there were tons of "classics" I could fall back on when I'm sick of the ones we always sing. So I started up with "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" the other day and he LOVED it. He sings the refrain along with me backwards: "I-E-I-E-O!"

But I quickly ran out of animals.

A tweet/ Facebook update later and I got lots of good suggestions. I thought I'd share the list so other parents can use my "cheat sheet" when creativity has been used up on other things (in my case, finishing my second novel!) lately. Some of these are mine, some of these are other folks. I'll update it as I think of/ get more, but for now:

Barnyard animals:
Cow
Pig
Chicken
Sheep
Horse
Goat
Turkey
Donkey
Cricket
Bee
Snake

Household:
Cat
Dog
Guinea Pig
Parrot
Parakeet

Pond:
Duck
Goose
Coot
Frog
Seagull (around the ponds here; they sound like screaming)

Forest/ desert:
Bear
Squirrel (chitter-chitter)
Fox (slink-slink)
Wolf or Coyote
Crow
Owl
Rattlesnake

Jungle/ savannah:
Monkey
Gorilla (chest thumping)
Giraffe (silence)
Lion (roar!)
Elephant

Ocean:
Fish (silence or "bloop-bloop!")
Narwhal (a joke, but could make up a sound)
Dolphin (squeaky dolphin noises, of course)
Seal (bark-bark)
Crab (skitter-skitter)

Science Fiction/ Fantasy:
Wookie
Tribble
Murlocs
Unicorn
Dragon
Gollum
Robot

Urban:
Pigeon or Dove

Other:
You ("hee hee hee" as the sound)

Thanks to Jon, Mandy, Jenn, Greg, Lisa, Beth, Emily, Laura, Tara, and David for the suggestions!
