2007-03-28 9:18 AM Look Out! There's a Hipster on the Loose! Let me just pretend for a minute that I am young and hip, OK?
Since I had an excess of sick and vacation days at the end of my contract year, I am taking a sanity day today. I considered going back to bed and sleeping until 11:00 but that seemed like a waste of a perfectly good day so I took the ole laptop to Panera so I can get some scout things done, which theoretically will help reduce my stress levels. But before I get cracking on the "work" part of the day I wanted to play "Let's Pretend" - so here I am at Panera, listening to the Decemberists on my headphones, drinking a dark roast coffee and writing in my blog (even though this is pointedly NOT a blog, for the moment we are going to pretend that it is, because it sounds more hip). I am not sure I have the aloof attitude down, but I do have the hipster librarian glasses. I bet you all wish you could be so cool. So, lifted from kblincoln is this: This site also tells me that there are 507,990 people with my first name, and that it ranks as the 104th most popular name. There are 8,713 with my last name, which is ranked 4185. If I use my maiden name, I am the only one of me. It tells me there are only 573 people with this last name. I guarantee you that they are all relatives and that my dad personally knows 400 of them (and at least knows of the rest). If I google myself, only one of them is me. Which I guess means that so far I have been successful in my goal of keeping a low profile. Gotta keep my secret identity, well, a secret. Now if only this gig came with a secret lair too. Other than Panera, I mean. Reading: Lolita Webelos Handbook The magazine I just got from the Natural History Museum. (The trip there was a resounding success, by the way. I felt super-nerdy cool and knowledgable. And, let's face it, that doesn't happen often, so I'll take it when I can get it) Hearing: The Decemberists - The Crane Wife Playing: Practiced me some Weber, Beethoven and Mozart last evening. That makes two days in a row that I have actually practiced. I can't imagine what will happen if this keeps up. I might actually improve my mad violin skillz. I busted out the erhu when I was done kicking Weber's ass, but I dropped my rosin and it shattered in a zillion little pieces on the floor and that was the end of practicing and the beginning of a temper tantrum. I guess since I am home today I could go pick up some more. But then the reason for the tantrum becomes moot - I was bitching about not having time to go get some more, so if I turn around and get some right away, then I really look foolish. Needing: A pee break and a refill on my coffee. In My Car: Thud - Terry Pratchett. Just started it yesterday, and he's still working up to what the big plotline is, but honestly his writing amuses me so much, he could probably get away with not having one.
