2008-02-10 8:59 AM Looser Ends A Diet that’s Sane & Working:
Starting February 1st I enrolled at SparksPeople.com and am here to encourage any of you who need to lose a few pounds or inches, to investigate this site. It’s a lot like Weight Watchers’ online site, but even better because of the emphasis on ingredients, physical activity, and it’s FREE. Weight Watchers charges an online fee of $65 then $16 each month. Give me a break. Anyhoo, SparkPeople is keeping me *Honest* with my intentions – more accountable than usual. Good & Recent Reads: None of these are obscure finds – very much mainstream, but want to endorse them. :) Taming the Tiger Within by Thich Hanh Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky Mao’s Last Dancer by Li Cunxin Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini A Thousand Suns by Khaled Hosseini Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert Three Cups of Tea – Greg Mortenson Bel Canto by Ann Patchett Atonement by Ian McEwan George’s Wedding: My dear cousin, George, recently got married. Unfortunately I was out-of-town and missed the joyous festivities. It was a simple country wedding in a small country church. The reception was held at my aunt and uncle’s farm house in Kentucky. It was a beautiful day. As with all weddings, there were lots of mini dramas. For example, the bride’s mother had a mild heart attack on the way to the church. The bride tore around the countryside in her gown trying to locate her mother – who btw was fine but had to miss the wedding. Also, in attendance were the exes, which seems to put a new twist on civility. But I think one of the funniest things EVAH to happen at a wedding happened to my cousin Genevieve – sister of the groom. She was assigned to light the service candles, and did so with great solemnity and flourish until one of her acrylic nails caught on fire. OMIGOD. Does it get any funnier? I couldn’t possible make that up. Of note, I didn’t think anyone wore acrylic nails anymore. :) "Be kind; everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
