2003-01-13 9:00 AM Expelliarmus! Mood: Bleary-eyed Read/Post Comments (5) |
Not much done yesterday. I was hoping to finish writing chapter one of the novel and get to the snake/phoenix story, but I did neither. Instead, I spent nearly the entire day reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, plowing through 450 pages in a single sitting (with breaks for food and the bathroom, of course). It was amazing, I can't remember the last time I did anything like that (besides the last Harry Potter book), spending an entire day sucked into a novel. There's something about Rowling's writing that infuses that sense of wonder back into me that I had as a kid, when I first started reading fantastic fiction. I can't wait to read The Order of the Phoenix whenever it comes it out, though that may be a while since Rowling hasn't finished it yet. It may be late this year, it may be next year. I hope my enthusiasm and impatience doesn't kill me.
So, since I got no writing done yesterday, I'll be heading straight over to Borders after work with my laptop to get as much done as I can tonight. I'm getting the old jones to work on the novel again, and it feels good. I'm hoping the novel-writing class (which starts in two days!) will give me some help in this area. Fun fun fun! Oh, and in case you were wondering, the subject above is the incantation used in a Wizard's Duel to disarm your opponent. I just love the word. I think expelliarmus is up there with mellifluous now, even if it may not be a real word. Sometimes made-up words are as or more important than the real ones.
