November has been a busy month. It almost seems, at times, that the more I try to commit to writing regularly, the more things pop up that I need to address. And we all know what two, three, however many days away does. The momentum breaks, the story line gets muddled.
I was revising and going forward. I think I reached a point now where I have "fixed" every scene that needed fixing. But now I can't remember where I left off. I don't know where it was in the story that I realized things that came before needed fixing. And I don't know why it needed to be fixed. On the positive side, I think I have six very tightly written chapters that flow (or so my few test readers have said). And I think they provide a good srpingboard to move forward. Yay for that! But now, I have Chapters 6 - 11 of the prior version (some of which were moved to the new Chapters 1-6) that I need to deal with. Now, on the surface, they're good, and don't require too much light editing. But I do need to rethink the order they come in. And some new scenes need to be interwoven. It's a struggle. Here's another thing. I was trying to outline the whole book before writing. Then, I got impatient, and started writing. Then, I thought, maybe I can outline as I go. What generallly happens to me is, I start writing, and the story starts to evlove in my head, and momentum builds, and I digress from the outline. But I only get so far before I hit a point where I say, "Jeez, I should go back and outline so I know where to go next." Meanwhile, Thanksgiving was nice. I drove my Honda Civic on it's 100,000th mile. I bought a new pair of black sweat pants, which I placed on the bed, only to come back and find the cat with the lightest color fur (it's kind of an off-white) sleeping on them. My son keeps asking me why I can't stand SEXYBACK (a horrid, HORRID song). And November is disappearing as quickly as it arrived. So that's the news. I scheduled some writing time this afternoon, so hopefully, I will have an updated word count. Read/Post Comments (6) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
