According to various Web sources:
  1. Raccoons are nocturnal.
  2. Raccoons will not attack unless cornered.
  3. Raccoons generally do not attack (or eat) dogs and cats.
  4. Raccoons can be rabid, and if they are, they may bee seen going out during the day, demonstrating aggressive behavior, and/or go after pets.
  5. Raccoons have molars and sharp teeth, so they can, and do, eat meat and veggies.
  6. Raccoons like to douse their food in water. Nobody knows why for sure.
Our neighbors came back, and were surprised that there were five raccoons instead of only two. She says they're just fine and not mean at all. He says he's going to put them in the truck and take them out to the wild.

For now we're all keeping watch on them. There is a creek a few blocks from where we are, so I am not sure how they got here. But I'm pretty sure they are sticking around for the food. I'll keep you posted.
