Global warming and clothing

Over this weekend, we've been doing a massive clothing project. We had a lot of laundry that built up and extra clothes in the closets to go through. So, we've been washing lots and going through and pulling out clothes that Alex has outgrown to give away and clothes that Marc has outgrown to put away until Alex fits into them. Also, pulling out summer clothes to put away or give away if they won't fit into them next year.

But I realized... over the past few years there is now no guarantee that once it gets cold (for LA - long sleeves and long pants weather) it'll stay that way until spring. I have to keep some shorts and t-shirts out because I know that there are going to be random 80 degree days in December, January, and February.

When I moved here in '92, once it got cold and rainy for the season, it stayed cold and rainy for the season. There was a period of instability in the fall and spring when you weren't sure what it was going to be like one day to the next, but that's fall and spring. Now, it's much more unpredictable all season long. I'm pretty sure winter is coming later and spring is coming earlier, too.

I never really noticed it so much until I had kids to dress. And when they need short sleeves in the middle of winter that I've packed away or they've grown out of their summer clothes, it's hard not to notice.
