2004-08-31 12:40 PM Will Code for Books Mood: Curious Read/Post Comments (2) |
Thanks to Amazon.com's opening of their programming interface, it's relatively easy to scrape a wishlist in XML format and then use the various data bits in new ways.
Viz, my online game is now "bookware" for those who might not want to pay via credit card to play it. I wrote a little bit of code to fetch my CINCPAC.com wishlist from Amazon and re-display it on my own page, along with the amout of game credit any given title will get a player who sends in the book. The bits of information include title, author, price, a link to a small cover image, etc. The game credit is based on the lower of either Amazon.com's price, or the lowest used price listed for the same title, plus a bit for shipping. If I update my wishlist in Amazon then the game's bookware page will change to reflect that, which I think is pretty cool. See game's bookware listing page Next project: build more bookshelves!
