2004-10-05 8:11 AM Physics - Nobel and Political Mood: migraine - pity my students today Read/Post Comments (2) |
Normally, I'd be grading at this time, but I woke up with a migraine and am dosing it with Excedrin, hot chocolate, and a cinnamon twist. Mmm..., but still not the appropriate time to grade, so I thought I'd pass a couple physics tidbits along. The 2004 Nobel Prize in Physics went to three American physicists for their work understanding the strong force. Two of them were grad students when they did this work 30 years ago. Let's hear it for awarding the work of grad students! Physics Today, a publication of the American Physical Society, has made free to the public their special report on the science policies of the presidential candidates. I encourage you to read it. All of us have our issues that help us decide which candidate to back, whether it be the war in Iraq, stem-cell research, faith-based charities, etc... Science policy is the issue that I hold most dear - probably the only person in the country who says that! With what the Bush administration has been doing to fundamental science in this country, there is really no option but to vote for Kerry.
