The internet (by way of facebook and hundreds of other blogs, social networking sites, etc...) allows us to express ourselves in new and powerful ways without the need to create something physical to do so. Imagine how much tedious work (and how much waste) it would take to do what the man in the comic is doing. Before the net, people talked about themselves, but no where near to the level this comic displays. I would argue that before the internet (and sites like facebook) encouraged people to share so much about themselves publicly, there was no incentive to do so. In other words, the internet tends to fill the voids that the internet itself creates. What are the long term implications of this? We won't soon know, but one thing is for sure. Norms are changing, and we have to accept both the good and the bad of it. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
