today

Or my subtitles have subtitles

I was told at my NaNo group today that my NaNo novel sounded like an intellectual skiffy version of The Notebook.

*bangs head*

At least the word "intellectual" was used.

I also evidently turned into Claire Danes overnight.

*bangs head again*

Once upon a time, particularly when she had a movie, or her TV series on, I was regularly told I looked like Gina Davis. And now it's changed to Claire Danes. At the coffee shop today: "You know who you look like? Claire Danes." OR, "You look like the girl in Stardust." Or "Do you remember My So-Called Life? You look like her."1

This sort of thing has been ramping up all summer.

That's right. I am the semi-well-known chick of the minute. I'm a chameleon. And the worst part is that it makes me nervous because it means people are paying attention to me, and I wish they wouldn't except for when I wish they would listen and consider me moderately intelligent.

And what I want to know is why I can't be Angelina Jolie...2 :D

I am split, I am crazy: Don't notice me or what I'm doing unless it's on my terms. I don't want to be someone else, I want to be me... unless it's something really cool.

And not to say that Claire Danes isn't a fine looking young lady. Or that Gina Davis isn't a fine looking woman. (Though did you see her doing whatever public service announcement she was doing before the new Pirates movie this summer? Was that a botched plastic surgery job or what?)

I'm going to shut up now before I say something really stupid and come off as being even more of a snob than I already do.

I need a t-shirt that says, "I do not look like ________". I could have several.

This is me, avoiding finishing the last 3,400 required words of my novel.

1Or maybe it's not so bad. She's not a bad actress. I mean, she did play Beth in Little Women, and I have great Little Women love. I bawl every time Beth dies. And she did Romeo and Juliet, and did quite well... And being associated with Neil Gaiman in some way is pretty cool, even if it is by the coffee house chick getting my Winter Lemon herbal tea who probably wouldn't know Neil Gaiman if she fell on top of him... a

2 Though in October when I dressed for a Halloween costume party Rice told me I looked like an older (as in an early, like early '90's) Tori Amos. That was cool.

aThough I did meet a young lady today who had a Cthulu wallpaper and a picture with a white kitty with blue eyes and a Dune reference. She likes Neil Gaiman, and that was incredibly cool. What was incredibly sad was that this weekend was a one time thing -- she's going back to college tomorrow. She goes to school in Moscow, Idaho, which is a long ways away from this town. (We are a big ass state.)
