2008-12-11 11:37 PM I don't know whether to be relieved or terrified. Well, it just keeps getting worse, doesn't it? These apocalyptic reports of job cuts and foreclosures aren't dwindling anytime soon and the bill which was supposed to give automakers a break has just died. In my heart I feel it's right that they receive no assistance and I think many Americans feel the same way. Many people feel like they are just a blank check to a government willing to shell out billions to huge corporations but focuses very little on the average working person who makes up the fabric of this country. I think we're all a little tired of hearing billionaires complain about how their businesses are failing. If we can sacrifice, why can't they? On the other hand, the economy is teetering on the edge of bad to worse with news that automakers might not receive any aid. Yet someone along the line someone has to stop and think: we cannot continue to hand over millions of dollars to companies. It just doesn't work that way. When people can't afford their homes, banks don't just hand over cash until everything is well again, and throwing money at a problem as big as this won't help either. If I didn't know any better I'd say we're about to enter into a New Deal, what with Obama promising to create almost a million jobs by repairing roads and embarking on other projects. Of course, we're not in as bad a situation as those who lived during the Depression. Yes, people are losing their homes and their jobs. But can we really say it's as bad? Things cannot stay this way forever. Hopefully Obama can lead this country to a higher ground. Or maybe he's the antichrist. Google that.
