Late-winter snow

Well, we got four more inches yesterday. What with all the melting and whatnot, it's not an incredible dump: We probably now have about six or seven inches on the ground. But this is my favorite kind of snow; the light in February (and later, in March) is just incredible, and somehow everything looks fresher and cleaner than at any other time.

I'm thinking that there must really be something about the angle of the sun that's changing at this time of year. I know that sunsets are red because of the differing wavelengths of red and blue light . . . and I suspect that there must be something similar going on with the change in seasons.

At any rate, I love, love LOVE snow at this time of year. Sadly, I don't get to play in it today because I've got a meeting tonight that I need to get ready for. I have another tomorrow - which will really just be a repeat of tonight's - and I'm hoping that I'll be able to get out skiing earlier in the day. The high today is going to be 19, they say (but with the Sun Index, that's 30) and tomorrow we're looking for 24 degrees. Perfect skiing weather.

And next week is spring break! Perhaps I'll Go North one day and visit the ski center in Roscommon . . .

Yesterday I managed to get a picture of Otto, who had been out in the snow:

Yes, that really IS snow in his undercarriage:

What a ridiculous creature, eh? He is definitely NOT optimized for winter . . .
