Well, March has started off with some nice opportunities to cross-country ski . . . Or rather, I should say, February ended and March began with a spate of satisfying snow. I managed to get out on the boards on Friday and Saturday. On Friday I returned to Fenner Arboretum, and then on Saturday I went down to The Deuce. I had lunch with Brenda, went skiing in County Farm Park (my old stomping grounds), and then had dinner with Em.

It was a nice day, all in all. Lansing really has very little in the way of interesting restaurants, so it was fun to visit some of my favorites in Ann Arbor. And it was fun to talk to both Brenda and Em. I'm especially pleased about Em, who seems quite happy and self-sufficient at the moment, and who has her feet moving . . . not sure of the precise direction, but whatever, she's not standing still and she's not going in a bad direction. I think she's going to get her life worked out just fine. (I've also been having extensive and interesting conversations with her via IM lately. In part, we've been hashing over "the difficult years" we all went through a while back; it's nice to hear her perspective, and to be able to backtrack and validate her perceptions and to see that she is indeed moving on from there unscathed . . . Hard times happen to everyone; it's what you do with them that matters.)

And today is the first day of my spring break. It's no longer skiing weather, as two days of over-freezing temperatures have decimated the snow. (We now have sno-cone, heading towards Slurpee.) Today is overcast and rainy, so I'm going to ride the exercise bike, then head off to lunch with Louise, after which I'll purchase a furnace filter and come home and maybe clean the house . . . Funny how my knitting tapers off when I'm on break. I'm starting to think that its chief function in my life is to give me a way to burn off nervous energy during the semester.

At any rate, I better get going, or I'll be late for lunch. I leave you with this video, which falls in the "It's funny . . . but is it true?" category:

Personally, I laughed . . . nervously.
