When I don't have anything else to say...

...I title my posts "Random Thoughts." So here are my random thoughts about upcoming movies.

-----------------------------------------------------

The ONLY movie that I'm really looking forward to this summer is "Spiderman 2." I think "Troy" is going to be a fun movie, but I wouldn't say that I'm altogether looking forward to it in the same way that I was looking forward to seeing "X2" and any of the "Lord of the Rings" movies in the previous years. The only movie that I have that enthusiasm for this year is "Spiderman 2." I really doubt that I'll show up for a midnight screening of "I Robot."

I think that "Spiderman 2" looks like it's going to be a really fun time at the movies. While the first movie of a comic franchise is the set-up, the second movie is where you have the payoff. "X2" was leaps and bounds better than the already fabulous "X-Men." I'm guessing that "Spiderman 2" will be a lot better than the already terrific "Spiderman."

But I'm kinda sick of the advertising for this movie. It's been really over the top and a bit self-indulgent. I think it's going to be a great, fun movie, but the previews are making it look like they're trying to make it the end all be all of summer movies. I wouldn't expect anything less from Sony. I mean, the first movie IS the number 4 money making movie of all time.

And no, I'm not that interested in "Shrek 2." I thought the first one was cute, but WAY WAY WAY WAY too overrated. Now Pixar's "The Incredibles" (due in Feb), now that's something worth getting excited about. Anytime I see a movie that has Pixar above the title, I get giddy. ;-)

I think that the most recent Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks collaboration "The Terminal" could be either really good or really bad. Although the concept of a man living in an airport terminal for years on end sounds a bit cheesy, if anyone can make this work it's Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. I will never doubt Steven Spielberg's work before I see it. They're too good at what they do.

I'm also looking forward to a movie called, "Garden State" starring Natalie Portman and Zack Braff (from the NBC show 'Scrubs'). The previews look really interesting and the early reviews have been mostly positive. And did I mention that it has Natalie Portman in it? muahahahahaha

Speaking of movies that have Natalie Portman in them, I can't wait until Episode III comes out next year. Man, it can't come soon enough. It almost feels like with that movie coming out next year, it'll be the end of an era. God I'm such a geek.

The only other movie I'm even remotely looking forward to is Oliver Stone's "Alexander the Great" movie starring Colin Farrel, Val Kilmer, Angelina Jolie, Jared Leto, and Anthony Hopkins. Oliver Stone is famously known as one of the greatest "actor's directors" around, so expect great performances from everyone involved. Oliver Stone is also one of my favorite directors, so that's another reason to be excited.

I've geeked out enough for now. More later.

matt out
