Plot in a sentence: A soccer team trained in the arts of Shaolin Kung Fu, applies their martial arts training to take on all opponents, including Team Evil. Hilarity ensues.
This movie was straight up, legit funny. Sometimes people laugh at Hong Kong movies because they're campy or silly, but Shaolin Soccer was just flat out funny in it's own right. Let's be honest here, this isn't a movie that can stand up to a lot of examination, but if you can turn off that part of your brain, I can almost guarantee a good time at the movies. And don't feel worried about taking the kids, any kid over the age of 7 will LOVE this movie. Hong Kong special effects have come a long way, but they're still light years behind anything that Hollywood would ever put out. But in this movie, the effects don't really matter at all. They're "good enough." And the story and comedy are so good that the effects are almost secondary. "Shaolin Soccer" was easily one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. matt out Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
