Due to the fact that Anya and I can't really go to movies anymore...
Due to the fact that Anya and I are set for a big tax return this year... Due to the fact that Anya and I can both amend last year's tax return for more loot... Due to the fact that we're probably going to receive a "stimulus" check from the US government... Due to the fact that we have a good chunk of change in savings for a future house purchase... Due to the fact that my credit card is paid off and my student loans will be paid off this year... Say hello to our new, 46 inch Bravia television and Blu-Ray player. It didn't ship in time for the Super Bowl, but it did arrive in time for this week's LOST. The picture is amazing. We checked out some of the Blu-Ray "Planet Earth" last night, and the picture is stunningly crisp and clear. We're pleased as punch. more below It was a bit of a leap for us to get this television. We had been talking about upgrading for a while, but it was always just a thought. It wasn't until we started putting all the financial pieces together that we realized that it really wouldn't set us back to get a new television. Hi-Def is a weird thing. Going from standard definition to high definition is like going from foggy glasses to lasik. It's like going from a View-Master to government issue binoculars. ... Well, maybe not that extreme, but the difference is highly noticeable. As I said earlier, we watched a little bit of "Planet Earth" on Blu-Ray and the image quality and sound really pop to life. The glaciers of Antarctica and the jungles of Brazil really seem to come to life. But hi-def is also a bit of a mixed bag. The picture is so crisp and clear that you see people's faces as they really are. Do I really benefit from seeing make-up caked on Bill Maher's face from "Larry King Live?" Or worse yet, do I really want to see Larry King's face in hi-def? ;-) Food Network in Hi-Def is almost as amazing as the Discovery Channel. It almost seems like you can reach and take Sandra Lee's mediocre homemade food items right off the screen. But yeah. It's a pretty sweet. A good purchase if I do say so myself. - Matthew Read/Post Comments (12) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
