What I did for my Fall Vacation...

On my fall vacation, I got up real early and delivered my papers and then gathered up my best gal, Lizzie, and we headed down to Ocracoke Island. After I got some much-needed sleep on the drive down, I was ready to start taking notes to research the romance/ghost story novel Lizzie and I are writing:

I am rested and ready to brainstorm!

On the ferry rider over, Lizzie the Super-Navigator and Great Idea Person soaked up some sun and shared her winning smile:

'I'm so glad I saved us 3 hours with my shortcut!'

So we got into town, hopped on some bikes, and started the sightseeing, including the beautiful views of Silver Harbor:

Is that a ferry I see in the distance?

We visited the cemetery --

Here there (shall) be ghosts...

-- and an old general store --

It's not as quaint inside -- knickknacks galore!

-- and watched some guys catching fish --

I really like this photo, with the light on the water and the guy in the yellow raincoat...

-- and of course, found the Jolly Roger restaurant:

Get your burgers and beer here!

We also scoped out sites for the romance novel, including Ella's house:

Three, count 'em three, chimneys on this house overlooking the lake (and Mitch's boat!)...

And her yard:

And she even has the lighthouse in her backyard!

We also found a cool spot for Abby (Mitch's sister) to set up her pottery shop:

Check out that awesome tree!

And Ella's friend Lauren's house, among a whole bunch of other possible houses (we felt like movie scouts, checking out the locations on the island):

We thought this little house was just right for a young schoolteacher, new in town (she's the star of book THREE in the trilogy)

With all the pictures we took and all the notes I scribbled down, along with all the atmosphere we soaked up, I felt ready and raring to get to drafting the novel:

Let me at it! Let me at it!!!

(Is that an evil grin or what?)

But not 'til November 1st. Got an SF novel to finish before then. More on that... later...
