Finished up two totally new scenes in the novel, as Ella contemplates quitting the whole trip after their ghostly run-in, and then her meeting with the first of the secondary characters in the book. It had just been a split second, a flash of white followed by an inky hint of blackness, accompanied by a sudden chill in the water. And right before the hose to her oxygen tank came loose, something had brushed her right shoulder. Ella had been so caught up in her discoveries that she’d barely noticed any of the events at the time, but her brain had filed them all away for future reference. Maybe that’s why I got so mad at Mitch after the tank malfunctioned, she thought. Maybe I was afraid his ghost stories were starting to come true.
