Mood: Tired Read/Post Comments (5) |
2003-01-14 10:22 PM Reading Day My eyes are tired. Woke up around 5:30 a.m. again, thanks to Pumpking the Large, jumping up on me at the first hint of me possibly waking up. And once I'm up, I can never really get back to sleep. So I got up and got started on my various readings for the day.
Today was catch-up day for me -- I haven't slowed down lately to just enjoy reading for the sake of reading, so I read the rest of Neil Gaiman's Coraline after Lizzie left for classes, and then started reading some of the stories I'm reviewing (strictly as a fill-in) for Tangent Online. And of course, because I can't not work and research and prep for my own fiction, I went to Borders to read a story from Redshift, the fat SF antho (I can't buy another book for a while, so I borrowed their copy). And reading that story (Turtledove's "Black Tulip") gave me lots of great ideas for the story I'm working on with my friend Derek. I came home and surfed for even more details for the story, and found a wealth of articles for our topic. I think I did some job-searching in there somewhere, and got a very promising lead for a possible interview tomorrow or Thursday, fingers crossed! And tonight, to complete the reading day, I reread the first 8 chapters of the paranormal romance, which I'm diving into head-first tomorrow. I have some ideas for punching up the beginning, and some minor edits here and there, and then it's full-steam ahead on the drafting. When I left off back in November, things were just getting good! Don't know why I stopped... And now I'm ready to get in bed and... read a little more! I'm reading Kristine (aka Kris Rusch) Grayson's Utterly Charming romance to see how she does it. Looks fun so far. All in all, it was a quite productive, enjoyable day as a freelance fiction writer. G'night!
