2005-05-10 7:46 AM Star Wars episode 1 revisited We (the family) decided to watch Star Wars episodes I and II again to get ready for III. The first time I had watched it I found it disappointing, mostly because I thought it totally failed to portray Anakin in a way that was going to make the transition to Vader believable in II and III. I still believe that was the case, and I couldn't buy the beginnings of the transition in episode II. And this is the one story Lucas needed to tell well for these first three to work. The jedi council is also pretty much lame. Yoda says he sees this foreboding stuff in Anakin, but we don't get to see any of it.
However, on this viewing (probably my 5th), I found myself enjoying the movie. As a movie in itself, I'd give it a thumbs up. And, sorry, but Jar Jar really isn't that annoying. If I could choose, I'd do away with the over the top voice, but he really isn't as omnipresent on review as he seemed the first time I watched (I know the first time may be the only time so the characterization was still a mistake, but ...). It's a good, interesting story. I think Neeson(sp?) makes the movie work. Anyway, I'd now give it 4 out of 5 stars. Are any of you re-watching and if so how do you rate ep. I now and how did you then? Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
