2010-07-18 10:34 AM Happy Holidays, Right? Yesterday ended up being a very pleasant day. Although the heat index was in the triple digits YET AGAIN (omg, it feels like you're sitting in a boiling bowl of water in a microwave) the Divine Mizz M was up at the butt crack of dawn and dragging me out the door with her daughter to go garage saleing. As it turns out, it was a good thing I went. Not only did I score a couple of Chicken Soup book for my tutoring for 25 cents apiece, I also happened upon a working sewing machine for TEN BUCKS.
So stoked. That's two great deals this summer -- my flat screen monitor for five bucks and now the sewing machine. It was worth the sweat and walking in the heat. So happy. Only problem is, I'm trying to figure how how to work in some sewing time in between writing/tutoring. Good problem to have, I suppose. **** After the garage saleing excursion, it was nap time for this tired bunny. I don't really realize how hard I'm pushing it -- but Mizz M has eagle eyes, so she does. After the nap a couple of girls came over and we all puddled in the pool until I had to leave to tutor. It was girly and it was fun, although as a fat, fluffy girl I really have an aversion to spandex. I'll spare you the picture. **** The tutoring is going well -- and I believe the father is satisfied with how it's progressing. At first, he sat in on every session. Then, he'd come in at the beginning and at the end. Now, he only comes in at the end of the session to tell me it's time to go. I consider that a good sign. Yesterday, we talked about holidays. You know, if this was merely teaching a language, that would be one thing. But, some concepts are very hard to explain. I guess all this writing about different subjects has been a good thing -- I know a little bit about a lot of different topics, and I can at least give my student an idea or a frame of reference. It's difficult to express some concepts. He told me the stories or legends behind some of the Chinese holidays, and I will confess I was scribbling notes in my Moleskin, much to his amusement. I explained our holidays, and we read a story out of Chicken Soup about a poor family who had contributed to presents for a family even worse off than they were, and this sparked quite the conversation about Christmas, what it means, and how it's celebrated. Lordy, people, this stuff about wears my ass out. Srsly. Especially since my feelings about Christmas are not really a secret. Hard to keep that prejudice out of the mix. However, he and I do agree that Halloween is the BEST HOLIDAY EVER. :) **** So today, I'm writing about IT security, offsite data storage, and the like. Then it's off to tutor, then I shall watch True Blood and drool over Eric and bitch about Bill's deterioration. Then, off to bed. Yah yah, exciting times. Heh. **** Oh, P.S. -- New fiction up at Word Webbing. :) Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
