If you want to see how I feel personally, please see my new journal. So yesterday I spent almost all day hacking out this new add for MS. She came to me with the layout mostly done (at least a very strong layout that just need tweaking) which allowed me to spend more time fidgeting with variations. I came up with about 4 ideas, and we picked and chose aspects of all of them to roll into the second draft. I always forget exactly how blue Pantone 285 really is. I keep wanting to take UEC in a more hip direction, but since they are so static in a lot of there layouts, MS, DG, and I are coming up with this sort of compromise. These designs aren't half as exciting as I want to make them, but a designer does need to be respectful of what has gone before them. You can't just change everything each time you get a new project. It's a better project if you can strangthen branding that is already in place. Anyway, so I'm pretty happy with the way the layout came out. We didn't really have much time before it was due (next wed.) so there wasn't really room to argue. I'll try and get a picture of it up soon. I also spent a little bit of time on a electronic newsletter masthead - though I'm not completely satisfied with it right yet. It just seems so obvious. It's my traditional bane. Hrm. And blue. Don't forget that Pantone 285. I don't have anything planned for today. I'd like to revisit the zetweb design before a meeting with CW next week. We have a brainstorming session scheduled. I definatly have a color image when I start talking about zetaweb, but I think it is based off of a sample I recieved in capacity for uss. It is a current trend going through the city's printers - using a metallic in place of the K. (of CMYK) It doesn't acutally change the color of the printing, but it does give the darks more of a shene to them. IT was very dark and very edge. Like a CD cover. I'm thinking that is way over-dramatic for zetaweb. I need to focus on their customers more. No gothic for j00! Of course this is sometihng I'm just in the idea stages of. I need to sit down and work out some ideas. Part of the problem is that CW has some good design sense. Not a problem really. It means that I'm trying to leave room for his ideas in my designs. (thus the brainstorm session) I don't want to superimpose my heavy handed work on someone who is willing to use their eye and mind. That's not what I'm about. So it means I'm going twice as slow as I normally would, stepping over the blooms. I haven't had any thoughts in relation to my other projects.
