Project: Met-Chem Logo
Patron: UEC Technologies
Medium: Illustator 10
Status: Round 3 of basically Thumbnails
Deadline: April 03

In between fighting with the OSX server and scanning photos, I've been trying to wrap up the Met-Chem logo project. This is the first project that I've done for uss/uec since I realized that I need to play a more vocal part in the design process. So, in some respects, I'm re-learning the ropes of negotiation.

Instead of directly applying suggestions, (beyond some straight critquing I got on Thursday from DG) I just start again. I'm now making the assumption that if the client does not immediately pick a logo, then there is actually none on the menu that he or she likes. Crazy, I know. But before this I use to force people's hands using a process of elimination. Hopefully this will generate a stronger logo, though it will also generate more work.

The current iteration of the logo is something involving the "met-chem" word mark, plus a swoosh.(the technical term for a graphic uec element) Grandfathering other design elements into this logo is the inherent challenge of this project. These other design elements are based off the UEC IT logo, which is actually a subsidary, not the parent company. So this is kind of the backa**ward way of going about designing a logo. In the end it should look like a set. My challenge is to make it so.

Project: June 03 Brochure
Patron: Trinity
Medium: QuarkXpress 4.0
Status: Draft 3.0
Deadline: Thursday past

Though the deadline has passed, I think the teem group is still working out details like mailing lists and such. I was actually kind of happy with the way this turned out. Of course I was just tightening the design and plugging in new content. I talked them into using a brighter color, other than the dark green and dark plun that had been on the brochure previous to this. I also owe them a pdf version of the brochure with final edits, as well as an updated registration form. I was able to bring home the registration form once I realized that we've been saving in 4.0 the whole time.

There is still some noise on their end of a complete rehaul of the brochure, to something new and different. Though it's not really my job to direct the art at Trinity, I also feel I should put some brakes on at times to try and nurture what branding TEEM and Trinity on a large scale has done. I'm no marketing genius, but it seems that the basic design (which was done by a designer) has potential if it were just updated and upheld with an iron will/fist. The problem with this org is that it is not committed to marketing itself or its services. But, then again it is a seminary. It exists for other functions. I just hate taking their money if I can't help them reach more long term goals. :/

I feel bad the whole time I am paying my electric bill.

Project: Logo
Patron: Zetaweb
Medium: Illustrator 9/10
Status: Draft 3.0
Deadline: March 24,2003

No work for Zeta this week, something I trully miss. Did communiate briefly with CW, but I never got any further than scetches concerning the simplification of the zeta logo. What is annoying is that I'm going to miss my deadline for a busniess card layout, unless I get much more motivated to work on it after hours, this weekend. Phooey.

I also have a few word marks and other files that will take 30 minutes to wrap up, if I could just get to a computer that has ill 10 on it. :/

Personal computing never looked better.
