Project: catalog
Patron: tesm
Medium: QuarkXPress 5.0
Status: Draft 3.0
Deadline: Aug. 15, 2003

I wish I had written some of this last night. I was dreaming about the thing all night. :(

I ended up waiting on the printing mainly because it would have been moot. I had just recieved a major chunk of text changes at around 4, so it seemed kind of silly to waste the paper at that point. I hope the changes won't take too long to weave in, but it also left me with that horrible "open-ended" for the weekend. As if the entire weekend is a small break until I get back to the catalog. It's distracting. I often dread the end of large projects. You live with a piece for so long -- it seems there is always something more to do before it is finished.

The formating is basically done, though I still need to run a spell check, look at the baseline grid, and do some other general house cleaning. After this printing, we will start cutting things out instead of trying to build them up to match the rest of the catalog. It always gives me a "slash and burn" feeling.

I also don't know how long it will take for the catalog to get to the printers. I will be passing it off to someone who handles the photography at the school, and I don't really have any control over his schedule. But that's ok. I'm leaving for fl thursday anyway. :/ Boy, bad timing on my part, let me tell you. But honestly, its good since it will allow us to "wrap it up" a week and a half before we need it to hand to people. Honestly.

Next year's should be better since:
1. I should have more control over the schedule so we aren't rushing to get it done by orientation.
2. We shouldn't have to change too much if we keep this format. I mean this ended up being a complete redesign.
3. I hope to work on it thoughout the year so that there are only minor changes.

It could happen.

But the good news is that writing out my demons here will hopefully free me for the weekend.
Out! Out! Damn Catalog!

So I sat down a few nights ago and I think I am going to have a go at self-employment. I figure if I do it for a few years I can determine if I like it or go find someone to work for. Once I'm back from FL, I will probably contact my accountant person and ask what I do now. I'm also kicking around the idea of taking Business 101 at the community college just to have a leg to stand on.
