Happy New Year!

Had a bout with traveling at the end of the year, though that is no excuse to leave off on the journalling. Other issues have taken priority I guess.

Project: T-12.03
Patron: EDP
Medium: QuarkXpress 6.0
Status: distributed
Deadline: passed

So far I've had a pretty good December work flow, though T-12.03 managed to get stuck not only at the printers but also at the mail service place, and then finally at the post office. It was doomed from the start I guess.

I did sit down and review a few stylistic things with the editor, though I still feel it is a long way off from being a "look". I wonder how many magazine layouts are driven by need vs. planned out from the offset. Since I seem to be doing a lot of magazine type things, I've found I need to buy a lot more magazines to use as inspiration seed. All my stuff has become so boxy - but the opposite to box in my brain is always gobs and gobs of white space. Unfortunately, I don't think the edp needs me to spend their money printing white space.

I also suspect that this mag should fall into some type of genre other then where I'm designing it. Because of my hubby I see A LOT of tech magazines and that is really where a lot of my block/boxy designs are coming from. But this is really not a magazine that should be look like cosmo or YM. Where or where is your genre little newsletter?

Project: photo calendar
Patron: VLD
Medium: Publisher (ick)
Status: at printers
Deadline: passed

Started a new project with VLD or rather tried to wrap up a photo calendar for them. Completely new printer, we had no control over layout or even what program it was built in. It was good that director and admin person both knew what they wanted - all we had to do was deliver it in a timely manner. I think we managed to accomplish this - but of course I haven't got it in my hands yet...

Project: various
Patron: TESM
Medium: Quark Xpress 6.0
Status: various
Deadline: 2nd week of Jan.

We've just had a few sundried projects for tesm these days, the biggest one being the CFP brochure, followed closely on its tail by a interterm. These are both in the administrative stages - cfp is on the way to the printers, interterm is getting organzed before I can start changing much about the layout. Blah. I know its important. I also know that I am better at designing.
