It's been a while since I've written. Part of that is because work has become slow, so I'm doing a lot of computer housekeeping and generally keeping myself busy. Here's a few updates on projects.

Project: porfolio 2.0
Patron: myself
Medium: paper
Status: brainstorming
Deadline: July 1

During our drive up to MI this weekend, I started brainstorming on portfolio ideas. I think I've got a phrase and kind like a theme, but I'm afraid in it's current construction, it will be over designed. The phrase is "meet me half way" and it will be a visual conversation about collaberation and compromise in my work.

The biggest struggle I have is figuring out if I want to construct a completely new book, or use what I've got. I'm not that amazing when it comes to paperart, so I don't know if betting on the new book is really a good idea. But I also have time. I'm going to keep chewing on it a bit more and see if I can get the color black out of my project. At the moment I can't see a portfolio on any other matte. (bleck :p)

Project: invitation
Patron: friend
Medium: illustrator 10
Status: completed
Deadline: passed

In the meantime, I've did a quick little invite for a friend's ordination. It turned out really well. I was very happy that I've learned enough about printing this last year that the paper texture and colors all came together even better then I thought. Instead of using a straight black ink for the lettering I used a really warm dark dark brown, with a muted red for the seal at the top. The whole thing was done on creamy linen textured cardstock, so it really looked like an official invitation. Since I did the design work for free, it ended up being about a third the cost of going through a normal invite place. I'll post something when I get a chance.
