Mars has lots of methane. This methane is apparently not produced by Martian volcanoes because of the lack of sulfur in the atmosphere. Oh, sure, it could be "reactions between underground moisture and minerals, producing methane but no sulphur dioxide," but I think the answer is much simpler: Invisible farting cows.
