lightning fast update

The divine miss m is seven months old today. To celebrate, she slept from 7:15 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. with only a brief snack at 5:30. Blessed be. Of course she just finished her morning nap, which is often 90 minutes long; this morning it was maybe 40...

When asked to explain herself, she replied, "Ba ba ba wah."

She's working on the top two teeth; in fact there's a little white spot on one of the gums, but it's not sharp yet. So I'm guessing there's just a few cells between her and toof #3.

The crawling is improving and she has started getting into stuff. And so it begins... again. Only now we have hair clips, tiny bouncy balls, Chutes and Ladders game pieces--it's choke-a-rama, survival of the fittest around here.

She and I played in the pool yesterday while little she-who-is had her swimming lesson. Can I just say that pools with "beaches" are the best things ever? We sat and played in two inches of water, then we went to deeper water where she floated in her raft with leg holes.

We had a good time, although getting dried off and dressed was a juggling act since I had nowhere to put her (women's locker room floor--eww). So I'm yanking off the swim diaper while she-who-is's lips are turning blue next to me. But it was fun.

Speaking of C and swimming, she LOVES her teacher. Young Greg is like a rock star to her. She gets upset when the class is over. They practice with foam noodles, kickboards, and these buoyant barbell things. Yesterday they started jumping in for the first time. And every lesson concludes with blowing bubbles. All of this takes place with background music--the water aerobics class prances about nearby, so we are all treated to corny '50s oldies and Kool and the Gang. You KNOW which song I'm talking about; I will not speak its name. Watching the class brings back fond memories though--I did water aerobics when I was pregnant with C--and now she's 3 1/2, blowing bubbles in the water and doing that tiptoe run around the pool!

C's latest rendition of "let's pretend" is to play church. She rings her chime several times, then holds up the mallet like a microphone and shushes us so she can "do the announcements." This then morphs into playing "Vacation Bible School" in which she does the morning roll call--"Where are the Purple Pandas? And the Lime Leopards? Red Rhinos?" Then she says, "OK, time to sing with Miss J" and recites a couple of the memory verses. Man alive, these kids actually pay attention to what we do?!?

And a poop just trumpeted its way into M's diaper so I'd better sign off.

--------------

Edited to add two little pieces:

M has started screeching. Last night said, "Ah yes. I remember there was a time we couldn't go out to eat with C, not because she was unhappy, but because she was LOUD!"

And C spoke to her G-mommy last night and asked, "So is your foot feeling better?" (She'd had surgery and rehab on it.) I thought that was really compassionate of her and was impressed she'd remembered!
