random monday dots

  • Very good, tiring weekend. The workshop went well, the concert was great. Got to see Mibi! Sorry we didn't have more time to visit.

Edited to add two cool things:
    1. When I introduced the speaker I shared this story, and it was wonderful to be able to share that with her. As she wrote me later, "Musicians don’t always get to know where the music lands. . .you just send it out there and hope it lands well and with your best intentions. It’s a powerful thing, and such a deep encouragement to an artist to find that the song has landed well in someone's heart. Thank you for letting me know. . .it means a lot to me."

    2. She saw the poster in our church advertising the upcoming pilgrimage to Iona, Scotland and said, "I want to go with you!" In my note to her today I said we'd keep her updated on our plans if she was sincerely interested. She said she was! Many things would have to align for that to take place, but it's still fun to think about.

Lots of smiles here. But man I'm beat.

I was hoping to take Wednesday as a comp day, then I remembered an afternoon meeting that did not make it onto my calendar.

    It is to weep.

  • From the President's 9/11 speech last week:

"On 9/11, our nation saw the face of evil. Yet on that awful day, we also witnessed something distinctly American: ordinary citizens rising to the occasion, and responding with extraordinary acts of courage."

    Ho. Ly. Crap.
Must we insult the rest of the world at every opportunity???

'Reminds me of an editorial cartoon that a member of the church sent me last week that featured the "front page" of two newspapers:
from 2001: We Are All Americans
from 2006: We Are So Over You

  • I am quite psyched about Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. We Netflixed it the other week and I actually watched it twice before sending it back. I do [heart] Bradley Whitford, Matthew Perry and Timothy Busfield, although I miss Tim's beard. However, Amanda Peet needs to lay off the Botox or learn to react. And either I don't "get" the Christian character, or the actor playing her doesn't.

  • Went to dinner in Chinatown last night with Mamala and some family who were in town. Awesome meal. The divine one enjoyed eating off my plate, but people, be warned: the problem with feeding a child off of your plate is you have no idea who much she's eaten. Or in our case, how little. She woke up RAVENOUS at 10 p.m. A bottle and some cereal later, she was relaxed.

  • R was gracious to handle that. I had gone to bed about 7:45.

    That is all for now.
