stuff i love on 11/26

  • The last sliver of a truly breathtaking pecan pie.

  • Sarah McLachlan's arrangement of What Child is This/Greensleeves--it is more haunting than the original.

  • The new booster seat for little she-who-is, which enables her to buckle and unbuckle herself.

  • Today's rehearsal with Small Choral Ensemble at church. I brought the girls to give R a little break. C sat shyly outside the room and munched on peanut butter crackers while M toddled around, charming everyone. Her patience lasted until the very final run-through, during which she got extremely, well, vocal. I sang while swaying her on my hip, hopping from side to side, balancing her on my head (baby hat!), and whatever else I could think of. I haven't moved that much while singing since my Cheesy Show Choir days in college.

  • The divine miss m's divine new pair of molars.

  • The fact that R is working on my blog redesign. It will be fun to move into some new digs.

  • The chance to see Casino Royale over the weekend. Very enjoyable Bond movie. I enjoyed the New Yorker review: "I cannot prove it, but I suspect that God may have designed [Daniel] Craig during a slightly ham-fisted attempt at woodworking. His head is a rough cube, sawed and sanded, with the blue eyes hammered in like nail heads." This is true--and his head seems too small for his massive body. But I liked the movie a lot.

  • Today's Poet's Choice column in the WaPo.

  • The Sunday Source section featured an article about writing a good 'holiday letter' and recommended haiku, which I did back in 2001, so there.

  • Most of us seem to be on the mend, even though R and I sound quite pathetic, what with the ongoing (and usually simultaneous) coughing. I was back at church today with the assumption that whatever I have is no longer catching (please God! because what could be worse than a contagious clergyperson, shaking hands and giving hugs at the door? Thanks for coming, and may the flu be with you).
