Let me be honest: I do NOT have a green thumb. However, plants do spectacularly well in my office. I work in a sealed building, with all of the outgassing plastic accessories and indoor/outdoor carpeting and computers adding to the olfactory mix. Not a good place for humans and other mammals. So I brought plants from home: pothos, Chinese evergreens, spider plants, statice, and a couple more which are lurking about with no known identities. I've been told that spider plants, in particular, are good at absorbing toxic materials from indoor air, and we certainly could use all the help we can get around here. What I don't understand is why they grow so well. At home, they mooned about on windowsills, putting out a reluctant leaf on occasion. Here, in my office, they have reverted to their jungle origins and are putting me in mind of "The Little Shop of Horrors." Must be all that plastic-sourced effluvium.
