2012-04-06 8:52 AM Sugar Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (9) I've just been reading an article about the hazards of added sugar in foods. I knew that sugar is addictive--just try eliminating soda from a soda drinker's diet and see how they react. N had a really hard time with it when he moved to the VA (and he still buys from the soda machines, I think).
What I didn't know is that sugar is dangerous to your health in other ways. All calories are not created equal. Sugar is implicated in obesity, type II diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, as well as cancer. If you're interested, here is the link. Now that I'm reading nutrition information on labels more carefully, I'm astonished at how much added sugar I eat, thinking it's just bread, or yogurt, or salad dressing. I never have been a soda addict, and I drink my coffee black. I've given up ice cream, too, though it was hard to do. I guess it's time to go back to baking my own bread, making my own yogurt (easy to do once you have live starter), and using olive oil and balsamic vinegar for salads. You are what you eat.
