Thanksgiving Day was a day of repeated litanies of what we are grateful for. Over and over I heard friends and commentators speaking their hearts as they listed the blessings in their lives.

Now it's two days after Thanksgiving. The voices raised in paeans of praise have been silenced as people's attention is turned once more to getting and spending.

But let me stop once more, in the chilly dawn of another glorious winter day, to say how deeply grateful I am for life, for being able to live another day.

Let me be worthy of the gift.
