We needed to get picture wire to wire the feeder shut, so I proceded to get my gear together and hop in the car for a quick trip to the pharmacy and the hardware store.
The battery was dead. I was going nowhere. After calling AAA and getting a tow truck, then a mobile repair truck to see to my car, I was in time to take Fran to her doctor's appointment, but the errands would have to wait. After Fran's appointment there wasn't time for lunch, so I grabbed a cup of coffee from a drive-thru and hustled myself to my own appointment. Oh, no! I had left the card with the doctor's name and address on it here in my office. I reached for my cell phone to call my GP, only to discover that my cell phone was missing. After frantic searches, driving back to the coffee place, etc., I found it. Whew! I could just make it to the doctor on time (barely). Got the doctor's address but had trouble finding the actual office in the maze created by the hospital, doctors' offices, pharmacy, and parking structure. Yes, I was lost (how embarrassing!). Found the doctor's office, filled out the new patient paperwork and sat down to read while I waited. All the patients who were there in the room when I arrived were seen and sent on their way; a recently arrived patient was ushered in. This is an hour and 20 minutes after I arrived. So...I went to the desk and asked if they had forgotten about me. They had and were terribly embarrassed. The receptionist looked as if she wanted to crawl under the desk. She said, "OK, you're next and I'm so very sorry." I replied that it would be more convenient to come back another day, since I hadn't had either breakfast or lunch--only coffee--it was now 4:20 and I was done for the day. I made another appointment for Monday next week. Wish me luck. It was just one of those backward, retrograde, nothing-goes-as-planned days. As soon as the battery episode happened, I knew that it was best just to go with the flow. Now that I think of it, I never did get the wire to fix the bird feeder. Some days are like that.
