I'm a writer, publishing both as SJ Rozan and, with Carlos Dews, as Sam Cabot. (I'm Sam, he's Cabot.) Here you can find links to my almost-daily blog posts, including the Saturday haiku I've been doing for years. BUT the blog itself has moved to my website. If you go on over there you can subscribe and you'll never miss a post. (Miss a post! A scary thought!) Also, I'll be teaching a writing workshop in Italy this summer -- come join us! |

2008-08-15 9:58 PM It's raining here And a good thing, too, because it's been sbout 100 degrees F and 100% humidity for a couple of days now. Since morning, heavy, fast-moving clouds have been rolling through, and on and off we could see rain in the valley. I've had a headache not brought on by my students, and not cured by caffeine. Though I did try that: cappuccino on the terrace with a chunk of my new discovery, Pane de San Francesco. I climbed all the way up the hill to the bakery I think does it best. St. Francis's bread, and if St. F. ate this stuff I can see why his heart was filled with love for all creatures. Does anyone know it? It's a sweet, rich yeast dough, like a heavy challah, with raisins and citron and, I think, lemon zest. I've sort of become obsessed with it. So I had some, and it was delicious, but I still had the headache until the rain started at dinner time. The lightning put on a show but we didn't hear much thunder, so the center of the storm must have been far away across the valley. But there was enough rain for us, and cool air, and that wonderful rainy smell. Now everyone's gone to bed, early, leaving the windows open.
