Heard another great bus conversation today, though I can't repeat it here. (too much use of the n word for me to feel comfortable about posting where it can be taken out of context) between two young guys. Apparently shooting people and jacking cars are "normal" and things young people do here. One gets the impression that crime is like any other gateway drug. This goes along with another adage I heard yesterday: "Once I got shot, I don't go to the north side. You know? Now I run around on my own hill." I've meet more young men here that have been shot at than I care to think about. Guys that would have just watched football or monster truck events in other parts of the country.

So, I took a quick poll at speakout.com and found that I am the middle that no longer exists. I think I agreed with the democrats for a few percentage points more than anyone, mainly because of how I feel about immigration and trade. Sad really. I'm going to look around a little bit more, but it seems that it's time to hang up the republican mantle and register as independent. (though I am attracted to the idea of infultration through the ranks) One last time: *mccain in 04*

I'm thinking about taking a class on world missions next spring - to get a bird's eye view of how the episcopal church sees its role in the world. I'm a bit skeptical about the idea of missions, but I've been pretty happy with what I've learned at SAMS so far. They seem very practical.

I'm also getting ready to dig into my book queue again. I've been ignoring it for a few months - reading sims for no good reason - in an effort to clean my literary palette. Time to dig out the book list profered from friends as well.

But now I'm off to stalk, shop, and study.
