Once again I have a significant element of choice as to what I eat.

When I left for my Kenyan adventure I made sure that there were no perishables in the fridge. The freezer had almost nothing to begin with--anything in there after August 29 ended up buried in my back yard. I figured that one of my first post-return jobs would be a visit to the supermarket.

Well, the circumstances of my trip and return sort of precluded THAT idea, and I found my supply of nourishing edibles rapidly depleting. OD offered to take care of that problem for me when she went to the store, so I e-mailed her a shopping list. And now, thanks to her, I have food again (other than vegetable medley Soup at Hand). Between the pantry restocking and the willingness of the pet-sitter to swing through a fast foodery on her way here I'm pretty well set (food-wise) for a while.

I was tempted to list only "sensible" foods for my daughter to buy, but then I decided I also needed food for the inner me and included some of those Philly treats, like the fudge marble brownies. Most of the food, however, is sensible. It's satsuma season here and she brought me a big bag of those, as well as plenty of cooked chicken. (Satsumas are sort of like tangerines, but juicier and tastier.)

The nurse that had said she would take out the staples hadn't shown up by 2 PM so I called her. She'd forgotten, and said she'd be here tomorrow morning. I may call about 8:30 to remind her.

I'm still working on finding an intellectually purposeful project to keep my mind busy in what is probably a jobless spring. To that end I was hunting for a specific book I once started that had some interesting concepts in it. While looking for it I ran across another book I'd bought for the "mean to read" list--A Mind of Its Own: An Intellectual History of the Penis. It's actually a history of social attitudes about sexuality and power and all that good stuff, and will fit in with gender studies. But it is definitely an eye-catching title.

So today it was food for the body and food for thought.
