Traffic Again

So, there I was, eating my breakfast and watching the early show where they give traffic updates. And the big news was an accident on that same stretch of interstate. This time it was a big truck, and a fuel spill. It happened about where last night's slowdown started (for me) and of course extended back ultimately into St. Tammany Parish. At one point the only open lane on the inbound interstate was along the side of the road. And the outbound lanes were blocked by cleanup and rescue equipment. I called in and told them I'd see them all Monday. I'm quite sure I was not expected.

There are other routes to New Orleans, but they have their own problems. The "old way," BI, was US 11 to US 90. Or, down one of two roads to US 90. And that stretch of Hwy 90 has two draw bridges. I think they have both been repaired (from Katrina) but I sure wouldn't want to bet on it. Of course those are all two-lane roads. I have occassionally used those routes, but you can imagine how backed up they can be as detours.

So, I said the heck with it. I don't think anyone who heard the traffic reports expected me to come in.

Beautiful day so far. BadCat is outside and some of her "friends" have come to visit. First was a cute little pekinese-type dog, trailing a broken line. He/she barked a couple of times, but then wandered off, I guess. The indoor cats sat on the porch and stared at it. Then the stumpy cat was outside. I don't think BadCAt mrrrows at him(?) any more. Yet to visit are the longish-haired black cat and the possum. But I think possums go out only at night.

There have been several bluejays in the area where I toss the birdseed. They can get nasty. When we lived here in the 60s the cats would sometimes go after them, and sometimes get dive-bombed by the birds. I got pretty good at keeping puncture wounds on the cats cleaned out. The medicine the vet used came in a long-nosed tube and was normally used for infected cow teats.

I hope Lady stays clear of the bluejays.

Now it's time for my lunch, and then I may be a total slug and take a nap.

It's so nice to have a suddenly "free" day.
