2007-01-11 8:03 PM It's Friday for Me Read/Post Comments (2) |
Today was my third (and last) work day this week--therefore today must be Friday.
For a day when the library is officially closed--and there are no student workers--the traffic in and out was surprisingly brisk. I got there shortly after the archivist stopped by to do something and turn off the alarm. Then the woman doing all the work with the flooded stuff arrived. She and I seemed to be taking turns going in and out for various reasons. And the archivist stopped by several times. To top it off, the woman from Xavier came by to do some work on her book, even though classes had started there today. She had some nice news though--the History/Political Science department once again has its very own copy machine. And Betsy says it's a really nice one. When I first started there we had our own copier, but it eventually died from lack of organs to transplant into it. Our copying shifted to the one in the hall which was shared by all the offices (including admissions) as well as passing students. I guess when it came time to divvy up the insurance checks they decided to go with multiple copiers. It's sixteen months since Katrina, and there are still traffic lights on reasonably major streets that are not yet functioning. But each week a few more get fixed. Street signs are reappearing all over. They are a relatively low priority and in Slidell there were some innovative fixes. For instance, one street sign was bolted to a stop sign, because its support pole was no more. There are quite a few signs attached to something convenient. Eventually they'll be on "regular" standards, but for now it's more important to get them in place. Miracle of miracles--no major traffic tie-ups for me in either direction today! There weren't even minor ones. Last week's two really major messes on my route to town were nasty enough that it should be quite a while before there's another one. There weren't any deaths, but two days in a row there traffic backups about eight miles long. The first was a week ago today. The second was a week ago tomorrow, but it was in the morning and I decided to pass on going to work, so I wasn't involved in it. So, since today was the last day I'm working this week, tomorrow must be Saturday. And the next day will also be Saturday. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
