The entertainment section of the Times-Picayune had instructions for making a voodoo bear today.

Local TV has a lot of reporters in Chicago. And all of them are freezing their whatevers off. So are the hordes of Who-Dats coming off the train from New Orleans by the hundreds. Interestingly enough, the train that runs from New Orleans to Chicago is called "City of New Orleans." (The one that goes to Atlanta and thence northward is "The Crescent.") Amtrak has added cars to City of New Orleans for the last couple of days. It's a nine-hour trip, leaving a bit after lunch and getting in to Chicago around 9:30 AM. I suspect that those going Coach don't get much sleep.

And a spot on TV this morning cracked me up. Fr. Maestri--the spokesman for the Archdiocese of New Orleans--was leading a bunch of Catholic school kids in a pep rally. And he had on a black Saints sweatshirt--and his clerical collar.

No, the city and surrounding areas aren't excited. The majority of the people I saw today when I was out were wearing some form of black and gold. I had on a yellow sweater and a black blazer. (I also had slacks, socks, shoes, and underwear on. Too cold for just the sweater and jacket.)

As I headed into town I saw a BUNCH of flashing lights down my road. I wasn't sure if I could get all the way down, but when I got near I counted six sheriff's cars and saw a man face down on the ground with his hands cuffed behind his back. The party was beginning to break up and as I got near I though I could get by. I indicated my direction to one of the guys standing there and got an affirmative nod.

By the time I'd gotten to Arby's I had passed two cars that had run off the road. No cops were at either one when I passed, but a bit after I settled down with my lunch an ambulance went by, and as I headed back to PJ's I saw one of the cars being loaded onto a tow truck.

Today felt like Saturday to me, but as a special cosmic treat I'm going to have a second Saturday tomorrow.

How about them apples?
