I walked around today without a limp or a roll like a drunken sailor, I did use my cane outside, but the sidewalks and streets at Tulane are in incredibly awful condition. Some of it is Katrina, but I think (based on when I was a student there 88 - 92) that it's endemic.

I met the new librarian today. The former one moved back to Georgia. This one started yesterday, but is still trying to figure all the little things one acquires bit by bit. One of the students was going over the book checkout procedure currently used. I told the librarian I needed more archival folders, and the recent internal flood had totally emptied the room where they had been kept. She'll be able to find out tomorrow from the person doing all the clean-up work. Or, her student helper may know where they are hiding. She was able to point me to the temporary location of archival boxes, which is on top of regular stacks. My cane comes in handy.

But nobody gets put out or anything. It's really a fantastic work environment there.

While "doing my thing" today I ran across a picture of YD's husband. It dates back to 1988 and he and another attorney are helping a couple of elderly ladies who got taken in a dance lesson scam. The attorneys are doing it pro bono.

I also ran across a 1992 article that promises that levee work in the Gentilly area will prevent any future floods from hurricanes.

Yeah, right. I made copies of that article too.

The mail brought me a box from Mystery Book Club. Only trouble was that the carrier had managed to get it into my somewhat oversized mailbox, but it was jammed in there so tightly I had to get my trusty girl scout knife from the car and carve away at the corners of the box in order to get it started back out of the box. It must have taken me ten minutes, and BadCat was right there by me the whole time. In the street. I haven't opened it yet, but plan to soon, because I just finished up my latest mind candy reading--Malpractice in Maggody by Joan Hess. This is about the umpteenth book she's written with these characters--and characters they are, drawn with a broad brush stroke.

I think I'll make my other two days this week Thursday and Friday. That will increase the odds of someone finding me more archival folders, not to mention the paperclips. Also, there's going to be some special kind of thing Friday afternoon that sounds interesting.

Tomorrow should be gorgeous, so I might even tackle more weeds.

Wow but I lead an exciting life.
