Yep--I've got to really stretch to pull out the little bits of life that keep the variety in it. (Or some such rot.)

Work day today, and nothing unusual about the traffic, unless you count the fact that on a major street that currently goes from three lanes to one (construction and repairs) almost everybody is courteous and the merging goes incredibly smoothly. It's for only a couple of blocks, so the bottleneck quickly opens up. But I am delighted to see all the people who accept the inevitable and let the cars on their right in. This is 8-ish in the morning, folks--top commuting time.

I'm working on a "new" collection now. I did a quick preliminary inventory probably about a year ago and now I'm doing the second round of seeing what's in there. Susan (my "boss") commented today that all the stuff I've done in the last year-plus would still be undone had I not been so screaming bored and useless-feeling. It's been good for all of us.

This afternoon while the librarian was at lunch I was on the front desk computer checking my mail when someonne wanted to check out a book. I couldn't remember the password, so I merely wrote down her ID number and the barcode for the book. And stuck a due date card into the pocket.

The book looked somewhat familiar, and it was. Inside the front cover was "donated by Sue Rowland." I told the student when I'd gotten it and that as I recalled it was quite interesting.

After she left I remembered the password. When Bea (librarian) got back from lunch she went ahead and checked the book out.

I hope I remember the routine the next time I'm the only one there and someone wants to check out a book.

I'm about to start counting down till my trip. I leave 12 days from now. Before that I have to figure out what I'm taking with me and check out the web site that someone gave me for what I can and can't carry on.

Does anyone really think all these draconian measures will prevent someone who really wants to do harm from doing it?

It's gotten to be like the boy who cried "wolf."

'Nuff for now. Time to play Flip Words, do some bookkeeping, and then veg out by the TV while I read. I got a book in the mail from a Calif. friend and I think I'll start on it. I've got some stuff to send her, including a book. Must get at that.
