2007-08-18 6:06 PM Blob Day Read/Post Comments (0) |
Today I was a blob--spending most of the day reading The Maze. I am just about done and will definitely have it done before bedtime.
While I was reading, I was watching the spacewalk, live. Fifty years ago something like this was the stuff of science fiction writers (and daydreamers.) The transistor was developed (invented) in Bell Labs in N.J. about then. When I was working as a draftsman (1956-7) for ITT Labs, doing mostly electrical diagrams, almost all of what I did involved tubes. There was some work on schematics that would be photographically reduced for printed circuits. Great prescision was called for in these--we used special tape so that the width would be absolutely constant when the circuit was printed. It did not rain today, so it's still more than a bit warm, but not like the past week. The heat index ("feels like" temperature) in "only" in the 90s. And, of course, everyone is watching Dean's progress. From the Louisiana perspective, things are looking promising. One has to feel sorry for Yucatan and the border southern border of Texas however. My evening looks about as "productive" as my day--there is at least one football game on the TV schedule. I'm hoping some channel picks up the Saints game. I've got that book to finish, and then there are several more that are currently unread. What the heck--it's the weekend! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
