Almost Gone

August is almost over! It's funny how some months take forever to plod through their days, while others seem to be skipping days.

Well, I'm sure that my return to pedagogical academia (as opposed to archival) has had a lot to do with that. I rather enjoy the challenge of juggling jobs. Luckily, the Women's Center one is extremely flexible.

Tomorrow I teach at 8, but then I'll head on home. I need to stop at DMV to get the form to take to my orthopedist to sign, so that I can get the state's acknowledgement that I deserve some closer parking, especially since I am doing the archival work as a volunteer.

And I must have looked really awful when I arrived last Friday after the 1/2 mile+ hike in the heat and humidity, because the Center Director said I should get the tag so I can park closer.

Today I got there about 8:30 and was able to park nearby, but by mid-morning those spaces are gone.

So, I'll probably work there next Tuesday. I can get there early enough that it doesn't matter if I don't have the tag to claim a (relatively) close spot.

Did I mention that my street is no longer asphalt but muck? When I got home yesterday I saw that most of the street at my end had had the asphalt scraped off. It rained this afternoon, so it is now muck. Yukky muck.

According to the sign at the end of the street, the widening of about 1/4 mile, repaving, and repairs and paving of the rest of the mile and a half long street, is costing almost half a million dollars. And the widened part needs some more work done on the brand new underground drainage, because the rains of the last couple of days have left puddles a third of the way across the road.

When I heard nibbling noises last night and looked out I saw two masked creatures. Lady was watching them too, from a perch on the porch railing.

Time now to watch the Saints play the Dolphins. It's a home game, but since it's only preseason I didn't want to work out the logistics, so the tickets went to son-in-law or some other family member.

This is the last week when I can be relatively dispassionate about the game--the next game will be one that "counts."

I did see several cars driving around town with Saints flags attached to the windows. One of these days I need to put the season ticket holder banner (a miniature of the one for last year's sellout that is on the "honor" wall of the Dome) in my car.

As I said, time for the game.
