There's quite a bit of "what were you doing two years ago" today. You-Know-Who helicoptered over from Crawford for a photo op. He's not the most popular person around here, to put it mildly. At least his motorcade didn't eff up the going-home traffic, like it has done in the past.
I managed to find an on-campus parking spot. Although it was a ways away it wasn't as far away as the street parking I had to use last Friday. This was the first day of classes at Tulane, and one person stopped to ask me where the classrooms were in the Women's Center building. I pointed to the stairs and said it (the classroom) was at the end of the hall. I imagine he found it without any trouble. The librarian interviewed a couple of students for the student worker spots. One of really good ones from last year is doing junior year abroad. Come to think of it, two of them are. It rained during the day, but my drive was in dry weather. Last night I heard the thud of the ice chest lid, flipped on the porch light, and spotted the raccoon. It has beautiful markings, and I told it so. It wasn't too sure about being talked to, so I turned out the light and closed the door. I heard Animal Nibbling Dry Dog Food sounds just before I got up this morning. I like being back teaching. I really enjoy the students and feel totally relaxed with them. It's an 8 o'clock class, but it is full. More than half are from the area, and (as usual at Xavier) the women outnumber the men about 3 or 4 to one. This was, overall, a rather ordinary day--interesting, but no major excitement.
